Resıdence Permıt

The procedures required to obtain a residence permit in Turkey are regulated in the Law on Foreigners and International Protection No. 6458.

The type of residence permit varies according to the applicant's purpose of stay in Turkey.

We Can Group Residence Permit Types into Five Categories:

1- Humanitarian Residence Permit and International Protection
Granted to individuals in Turkey due to compelling reasons such as war, political, religious, or ethnic discrimination.

2- Short-Term Residence Permit
This is a residence permit granted for purposes such as tourism, owning real estate, conducting business meetings or establishing a business, education, internships, courses, participating in student exchange programs, learning Turkish, etc.

3- Family Residence Permit
This is a type of residence permit that can be applied for by those married to a Turkish citizen residing in Turkey or to someone holding a residence permit.

4- Student Residence Permit
This is a type of residence permit granted to foreign students studying at a university or educational institution in Turkey.

5- Long-Term Residence Permit
Foreigners who have resided in Turkey for at least 8 continuous years can obtain it. Foreigners who meet the conditions stipulated by the law for a long-term residence permit or those determined by the Migration Policies Board are granted a long-term residence permit indefinitely by the governorships with the approval of the ministry.

Application Process:

The application is made online through the Presidency of Migration Management's system (e-ikamet system). Required documents are also uploaded to the system during the online application. An appointment is scheduled, and the necessary documents are prepared physically. The application is submitted in person at the provincial/district migration office on the appointment day. One can legally stay in Turkey with the "application document" provided until the application is finalized.

The documents required for the application are; passport or valid travel document, 4 biometric photos, proof of address (rental contract, title deed, etc.), income statement or documents showing financial status, and health insurance. The migration office may request other documents, provided they are submitted within 30 days.
